A collaboration with developer City Center Lehigh Valley, this wide-ranging vision plan re-imagined downtown Allentown’s public spaces as pedestrian-friendly gathering places that integrate art and nature, and offer a range of amenities for the City’s diverse citizenry. The plan recommends two initial catalytic projects to support a planned influx of residents to the downtown core: the extension of the ArtsWalk, a linear art-infused promenade, and the creation of Center Green, a new neighborhood park. The planning project was informed by the community in a day-long sidewalk engagement session giving citizens the opportunity to dot-vote on proposed designs and offer their own ideas about downtown. This engagement included dot-voting, love notes/break up notes to Allentown, an interactive photo booth, priority mapping, and voting on specific park programming elements.
